Alex Trebek

Alex Trebek is a famous Canadian- American television personality who rose to fame due to his extraordinary skills as a host and charming television personality. He has been a host of the syndicated game show Jeopardy! since it’s a revival in 1984 and signed numerous projects apart from this as well. Let us talk about this personality more in detail!

Early Life:

Alex Trebek was born as George Alexender Trebek on 22- July 1940 ( 80 years) in Sudbury, Ontario Canada. He was the only child of his parents without any siblings. Alex grew up in a bilingual French- English Household. His first job was at the age of 13 as a bellhop in the hotel where his father worked as a chief. He stayed in Canada till 1973 after which he moved to the United States to continue his career in Hollywood.

Education:

Trebek went to Jusit School till the age of 12 and completed his high school graduation from Lisgar Collegiate Institute in 1957. After which he went to the University of Ottawa where he studied Philosophy as a major and graduated in 1961 with a degree.

Career:

As a university student, Alex developed an interest in Broadcasting and began his career in 1961 (before graduation) working for CBC. After which he stepped into the world of success and rose to height gradually. In 1963 he introduced himself as a host through a Canadian music program “Music Hop”. In 1966 he hosted a quiz show “Reach for the top”.

Alex continued his career in Canada for seven years after which he migrated to the United States and hosted his first show for the country “The Wizard of Odds” in 1973 for NBC.

His career took another turn when he signed the show Jeopardy! in 1984 as a host which he continues to date. According to sources Alex has signed the contract to host this show till 2022. Apart from this, his other shows include Double Dare, the $128,000 question, Pitfall, Classic Concentration, and the list goes on.

Awards and Achievements:

Trebek has received numerous awards and honorary degrees throughout his Journey, among which the most prominent include his seven Outstanding game show host Emmy Awards and a star on the Hollywood walk of Fame. Moreover, in 2011, Trebek was announced to be one of the recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Daytime Emmy Award. As of 13 June 2014, Trebek held a Guinness World record of “ the most episodes hosted by the same presenter” for hosting 6,829 episodes of Jeopardy!

Alex was born to George Edward Trebek and Lucille Trebek. His father was a Ukrainian immigrant who worked in a hotel as chief while his mother was a French-Canadian woman.

Trebek currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife Jean. He sold his pristine 1956 Jaguar XK 140 MC Roadster, to Robert Huntington for $6,875 in 1976.

Health:

The star has been facing ups and down’s in his life when it comes to his health. In October 2017, after a bad fall, he was diagnosed with subdural hematoma in December and went for surgery the following day. However, Trebek had a speedy recovery and resumed his responsibilities as a host. Unfortunately in March 2019, jaw-dropping news for the fans broke out stating that the artist has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
