The most popular beverage in the world, with more than 400 billion cups consumed every year!
Interestingly, Finland has consumed the maximum amount in 2020, followed by Norway and Iceland.

Talking of this beverage, all of us are well aware of the pros and cons of drinking it within limits and excess. Massive scientific researches proved the fat burning capacity, along with the tremendous amount of antioxidants and the gold standard benefit of lowering the risk of cancer. Incredible!

But let’s level up today and unravel the profit coffee offers to our SKIN!
Yeah, you heard me right!

While a cup of coffee can provide you with numerous antioxidants, the benefits can be entertained topically as well. This includes making a mask, a scrub, or a paste with the refined coffee powder and the list goes on to uncountable ways.

Let’s dig deeper to explore six amazing benefits coffee brings to our skin.

Anti-aging:

Age brings you experience, events, and adventure but it can also cause you wrinkles, dark spots, fine lines and no one wants that!
Solution?

Caffeine — the active ingredient in coffee, is not only a helpful stimulant but also a powerful anti-aging substance. According to a study made by a team of Stanford University, “Caffeine may counter age-related inflammation”

So we must include the use of coffee in our daily lives.

Here, let me share the DIY scrub that I used for myself and you can also try twice a week for your healthy skin!

To use coffee as a scrub

One tablespoon of coffee powder

One tablespoon of rice flour

One tablespoon of thick yogurt

Mix them well together and apply on your clean face

Scrub it for 5 minutes

Rinse it off with cold water or wipe it off with a soft cloth. Repeat as often needed.

Vitamin B-3 for skin cancer :

Coffee is enriched with vitamin B3(niacin). Trigonelline is a key factor that breaks down into niacin when coffee beans are roasted. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, vitamin B3 plays a role, as a healer on non-melanoma skin cancer and it can also prevent skin growth.

In several human and animal studies, topical and oral use of niacin or its derivatives helps to reduce UV-induced immunosuppression which can be a risk factor for skin cancer.

Acne Treatment:

A large number of antioxidants are present in coffee having anti-bacterial properties. Thus coffee powder, in an acne-fighting facial scrub, will not only remove dead cells but would also help in opening your clogged pores and exfoliate the superficial layer of skin, which will allow it to breathe and increase the blood flow leading to healthy skin.

Coffee is an excellent exfoliator. It reduces acne, treats cellulitis, and stretch-marks. It removes the impurities of your skin for brighter and radiant results.

Hair and scalp:

Scientists measure the pH of any substance through a pH scale. Research shows that both scalp and hair are naturally acidic. Hair fibers have a pH of 3.67, while the scalp has a pH of 5.5.

So if we use hair products that have a higher value of pH, they may result in side-effects such as frizzles, dullness, or damage. However, coffee is naturally acidic. Applying coffee will keep a balance in the pH levels of the hair and scalp. Try to rinse it with cold, brewed coffee, that removes the dead skin cells from the scalp.

Sun Protection :

Coffee not only possesses an active compound CAFFEINE but also contains a large number of polyphenols, which aids in protection from ultraviolet(UV) rays and some additional signs of aging due to sun exposure.

A study of 2015 has found that participants who have the highest consumption of polyphenols, from coffee seem to have less UV age spots on their faces. Japanese women aged (30–60 years) were the participants in this research, while this is still in process.

Either you drink it or apply on to your skin, it will still provide you with loads of antioxidants that can help your skin get better!

Dark Circles :

A study has shown that coffee may also help you in treating dark circles.

It is because of the same active element which works like a miracle for your eyes — caffeine. It helps to dilate the blood vessels and increase the blood flow, reducing the dark circles or puffiness under your eyes.

It also contains a compound called Tannins that has skin-lightening properties and helps in reducing dark circles.

A simple DIY :

Add coffee and honey in a bowl with a 1:1 ratio and a pinch of turmeric and mix it well until it becomes a smooth paste. Apply it for 15 min and then rinse it off with cold water. For the best outcome, repeat as often as needed.

Our nature conceals in itself such immortal miracles that are yet to discover. I believe these black beans are one of those miracles. The more you study, the more exciting they become. However, results might differ for different skin types.
